Band History

The James S. Rickards High School Band, located on Jim Lee Road in Tallahassee, Florida, has emerged as an award winning Marching and Symphonic concert band. In four short years, under the dynamic leadership of band director, Mr. Quincy Griffin, an outstanding musician and an inspirational and highly competent leader, the music program at Rickards high school has been revitalized. Student participation has increased from 40 students to over 170 current members.

The Rickards HS Symphonic Band earned the highest evaluation of Superior in all categories at the 2007 Florida Band Masters Association District Competition. The Raiders’ outstanding performances garnered an invitation to the Bowl Games of America competition where they competed against high school marching bands from across the country. Our band won fourteen awards at the competition and was the only high school marching band selected to perform in the pre-game show of the Orange Bowl. In January 2008, fourteen students from the Rickards HS Band program performed in the prestigious All District Honor Band concert.
